CVS Health Announces Major Corporate Split
CVS Health has announced a significant restructuring, with plans to split into two separate companies by the first half of 2028. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the decision follows an extensive strategic review by top executives. The new structure will see CVS Pharmacy encompass approximately 9,000 retail pharmacy locations, in-store clinics, and mail-order pharmacy operations. Meanwhile, the retained CVS Health company will focus on insurance, pharmacy benefit management, and healthcare services, including Aetna, Caremark, Oak Street Health, and Signify Health. This move marks a reversal of CVS’s previous strategy of vertical integration, most notably after the merger with insurance provider Aetna. The split is expected to reshape the competitive landscape of the healthcare and pharmacy sectors, impacting customers, shareholders, and employees across the country.
