A U.S. cruise ship, MV Odyssey, has suspended its three-year global voyage while docked at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in Cambodia, according to official statements and reports. The Florida-based cruise operator, Villa Vie Residences, cites surging fuel costs in Asia as the reason for the suspension, with monthly fuel expenses per cabin rising from a historical average of $1,800 to between $6,000 and $8,000 amid the ongoing conflict in Iran. Efforts to slow the itinerary and extend port stays were unable to offset these escalating costs. As a result, approximately 200 passengers have been stranded onboard with no confirmed departure date. The operator has yet to provide specific details about the resumption of the voyage or alternative travel arrangements for the affected passengers.
