Nigeria has confirmed its first Ebola case following the arrival of a Ugandan-born woman in Abuja, according to health authorities. The patient, the wife of a diplomat, returned to Nigeria after vacationing in Uganda and began exhibiting symptoms earlier this month. Authorities report that she did not visit the Democratic Republic of Congo, the epicenter of the current outbreak. The World Health Organization and Africa's top health agency have stated that there is no confirmed information linking the Nigerian case to direct travel to the DRC. Investigators are examining whether the Nigerian patient and Kenya’s first patient could have come into contact at Entebbe airport in Uganda on October 3, with health officials reviewing possible exposure routes including shared equipment. The ongoing outbreak, which began in the DRC, has now affected Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, and continues to prompt escalated responses from regional and international health agencies. Nigerian officials are increasing surveillance and coordinating with Africa CDC and the WHO as concerns grow over the ability to contain the virus's spread across borders.
