The French government has announced plans to replace its national online university admissions platform in 2028 in response to weeks of student protests. The measure aims to address widespread student dissatisfaction with the current system, known as Parcoursup, which critics argue lacks transparency and limits access to higher education. President Emmanuel Macron has raised the potential for a fundamental overhaul, but officials confirm that any replacement would occur after his term ends. In addition to promises of reforming admissions, the government is reportedly considering measures to tackle teacher shortages, improve school infrastructure, and expand university capacity. Student groups are calling for increased university places, enhanced grants, and greater investment in the education sector. University officials, however, warn that abolishing the admissions platform alone will not resolve ongoing challenges in higher education access. According to the latest reports, the proposed changes are expected to cost approximately €10 billion.
