Russian Oil Refinery Hit by Suspected Drone Attack
A fire reportedly broke out overnight at the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery in Russia's Samara Oblast, following a suspected Ukrainian drone attack. The incident was reported on October 30, with footage published by Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ showing widespread fires and drones flying overhead, according to local residents. The Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery is owned by Russian state-controlled oil company Rosneft and processes approximately 8.8 million metric tons of crude oil, producing aviation fuel, gasoline, diesel, and lubricants. This facility has previously been targeted in suspected Ukrainian drone attacks, including one in August. Current reports describe this strike as the first after an unofficial pause in Ukraine's campaign against oil refineries that began in mid-October. The Kyiv Independent notes that the footage could not be independently verified, and the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
