FBI Attributes Record Binance Theft to North Korea
The FBI has confirmed that North Korean hackers were responsible for stealing more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world’s largest digital currency exchange, in a cyberattack that occurred within minutes. The bureau identified the perpetrators as the group known as TraderTraitor, who were also linked to a $1.5 billion Bybit hack last year. According to officials, the hackers are expected to attempt to convert the stolen assets through decentralized finance and instant swap services. Binance stated it has replenished 90% of the missing funds and assured customers of full reimbursement. Authorities have called on cryptocurrency exchanges and blockchain firms to block associated transactions to prevent the laundering of these assets.
